RUTH PICKENS

Ruth was born on January 15, 1945 in Steubenville, OH. She was the daughter of the late Donald Shawver and Edith (Dennis) Shawver.

Ruth was a member of the Hooverson Heights Church of Christ. She retired after many years of service to the Brooke County Schools where she worked in Special Education. Many will remember Ruth for her love of traveling and crafting but most of all, her dedication and love of her family.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Ray Pickens, three daughters, Karen Sue Ritchie and her husband, Brian, Sharyl McGee and Rebecca Pickens and her brother, Joseph Shawver.

Ruth is survived by her grandson, Caleb Ray Ritchie of Follansbee, WV, friends, church family and the caregivers at Brightwood Center.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 PM and again on Monday from 11:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 12 Noon at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717.

Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery Haven of Rest, Colliers, WV.

A special thanks for the wonderful care, friendship and love that Brightwood Center has shown to Ruth during her extended stay there.
