PAULINE PETROVICH
Pauline Ann Petrovich, 91, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away on February 4, 2026 at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, NY, surrounded by the love of her family that she so freely gave throughout her life.
Pauline was always full of a zest for life and shared it with everyone she met. She was kind, feisty, courageous, strong and a true fighter, blessed with a great sense of humor that could light up any room and which helped her through difficult times. Her family described her as “a wonderful person and a great mother,” a sentiment echoed by all who knew her.
Pauline was born on June 21, 1934, in North Reading, Massachusetts, the fourth of five daughters born to the late Frank and Pauline Daykin Wheeler. After graduating from high school, Pauline met Sam Petrovich while he was serving in the United States Coast Guard. The two were married on September 1, 1956, beginning a marriage that spanned nearly seven decades.
Pauline and Sam made their home in Weirton, West Virginia, where Sam worked in the steel mill and Pauline lovingly cared for their home and family. Together, they were blessed with one son, two daughters, and three grandchildren. Sam preceded her in death on October 19, 2024.
She was a member of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and formerly the Weirton Woman’s Club. Pauline enjoyed bowling, fishing, jigsaw puzzles and playing BINGO. She loved spending her summers in Maine with her sisters, family and friends. Pauline loved music, watching movies/comedians and recently attended her favorite musical – Jersey Boys. A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, she and Sam were fortunate to attend every Super Bowl the Steelers played in. While recently living on Long Island, she also became a die-hard Islanders fan.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Pauline was preceded in death by three sisters, Eleanor Nickerson, Lorraine Francis, and Nancy Balkus.
She will be remembered with love by her children, Valerie (Paul) Adamo, Dawn Rae Petrovich, and Sam Petrovich; her grandchildren, Heather (Jordan) Shane, Dylan Petrovich, and Jason (Molly) Adamo; and her sister, Phyllis Luken.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3-7 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday. Additional visitation will be held prior to her funeral on Friday at the funeral home from 10 AM until 11 AM.
Pauline will be laid to rest at Saint Paul’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
