MICHAEL S. KOKENOS

Michael S. Kokenos, 74, of Weirton, WV, gently went to sleep with the angels on Tuesday January 20, 2026

He was born on March 19, 1951, in Steubenville, Ohio, one of two children born to the late Mike and Mary Hollaway Kokenos.

Michael was a proud graduate of West Virginia University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. He spent his career at Weirton Steel Corporation, where he worked in several departments including Quality Control, Production Planning, the Print Shop, Operations Planning, and later as a forklift operator before his retirement. His strong work ethic and dedication were evident even at home, where he enjoyed tinkering around his house. He would say that “It’s a good day when he gets a lot accomplished.”

In his free time, Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the camaraderie of his friends. He looked forward to his annual hunting trip around Thanksgiving, a tradition that meant a great deal to him. Mike was a member of the Hancock County Sportsman’s Club, the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, a life member of the WVU Alumni Association, and a life member of the NRA. Most of all, Mike will be remembered for his loyalty to family and friends, his love of the outdoors, and his laughter and funny jokes.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his nephew, Denzel Sean Linn, and his step-grandson, Austin Bullock.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Lynne O’Leary Kokenos, whom he married on June 27, 2020; his son, Eric Carper; his step-sons, Shawn (Kim) Bullock, Brian (Nyrha Hawkins) Bullock, and Daniel (Jim) Forston; his step-daughter, Kristi (Michael) Pruszenski; his sister, Juanita T. Kokenos (Denzel) Linn; his grandson, Caleb Carper; his step-grandchildren, Kaitlynne, Scott, and Stephanie Bullock, and Halle and Emily Pruszenski; his nephew and godson, Jason Linn; his niece, Kelsi Linn; his brother in law, Vernon Michael O’Leary; nephew, Patrick (Sarah) O’Leary, and niece, Erica O’Leary.

Visitation will be Saturday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, from 3 PM until the time of his funeral service at 6 PM.

Pastor Margie Zellers will preside.

Interment will take place at Bethel Cemetery, Bethel Park, PA on Monday
