CHERYL KACZMAREK

Cheryl L. Kaczmarek, 71, of Steubenville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Valley Hospice with family by her side. She was born November 22, 1954 in Steubenville to the late Henry A. Kaczmarek and Helen A. Kaczmarek Gordon.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather George K. Gordon, brother-in-law Stanley J. Walenciej, and nephew Firefighter Lt. Brian H. Ritchie.

She is survived by her brother Regis “Ducky” (Debbie) Kaczmarek, sisters Carol Ritchie and Marsha (Earl) Batton, nieces and nephews Shawn (Kristen) Walenciej, Kevin and Michael Ritchie, Jeannie (Brad) Burkhead, Nicole (Larry VanKirk) Ritchie, Tracy (Alan Morabeto) Walenciej, Kerri (Jim) Keefer, Keith (Melinda) Kaczmarek, Michele (Luke) Pieniazek and Mindy (Joe) Borg. Sherry was proud to be a great-aunt to Caleb, Kylie, Mason, Jacob, Kacey, Macy, Emily and Jordan.

For the last 8 years, Sherry resided at Shaffer Plaza in Steubenville. Truthfully, Sherry reigned over Shafer Plaza as we always teased that she was “the Queen.” The staff at Shaffer allowed Sherry to be herself and treated her as if she were family. She was spoiled and pampered, and she loved every minute of it. They indulged her love of Elvis and Wayne Newton and made sure she was surrounded with memorabilia. Most of all, they loved her and for this, the family is eternally grateful.

Sherry will always be remembered for her witty responses and her sense of humor. She was a strong, stubborn woman who overcame each challenge with a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her especially her best friend Courtney Elliott.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Valley Hospice North for the incredible and dignified care they provided to our Aunt Sherry in her last days.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 3-7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Private burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shaffer Plaza by including Kaczmarek on the memo line.
