LINDA ELLEN JONES
Linda Ellen Jones, 69, of Weirton, WV, passed peacefully to her rest on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Hope Cottage, Serra Village Retirement Community in Weirton: an inspiration to all as she maintained her faith and indomitable spirit throughout her multi- year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born February 7, 1956, in Steubenville, OH, the daughter of the late Daniel W. Jones Sr. and Avis D. McIntire Jones. She is survived by her brother Daniel W. Jones Jr of Weirton and her sister Jeri Williams and husband Ron of Belington, WV. Also surviving are nephews Kenneth Jones, Timothy and David Williams and niece Carrie Williams. Also dear to Linda’s heart was her faithful companion Molly whom she rescued as a puppy, and who became a most-loved mascot at Serra Manor, where Molly continues her loving service to the residents. Linda was a devoted and active member of the Weirton Seventh-day Adventist Church, whose members were a dearly beloved family to her. And also surviving is Linda’s God Daughter, Abigail Murphy of TN, of whom she was so proud.
Linda was a 1974 graduate of Weir High School. She earned her BA in Education from Fairmont State
College (University) in 1978, a BSN in 1997 from West Liberty State College (University) and an MA in Human Resources from the University of Oklahoma in 2006. Linda held certifications as an emergency medical technician, a paramedic, a sexual assault nurse examiner and an American Heart Association health care provider.
Linda was most proud of her 26 plus years of service in the US Army attaining the rank of Major, having served 10 1/2 years as a Transportation Management Officer and 16 years as a Medical-Surgical Nurse. Her overseas assignments included a year’s deployment to Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Storm during which she was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) and (Kuwait), and 2 tours of service to South Korea where she served as Head Nurse of a medical-surgical unit and during her second tour as Chief Nurse of 5 clinics. Linda was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star (3rd Award), Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal and others. Linda was also a member of American Legion Post 10 in Weirton and was proud to serve on their Honor Guard, and was a member of the Fort Steuben Chapter of the DAR.
Linda (and her family) was so very grateful to the administration and staff of Serra Manor and Hope Cottage…so thankful for those who went far beyond their duties, to daily share their nursing skills, love, encouragement and support to give Linda the highest quality of life. May God bless each of you for opening your hearts and showering our Linda with your faithful and kind-hearted care. And no words can adequately express our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Jasbir Makar for the lifetime of expert medical care and attention that he gave to Linda, beginning with his life-saving diagnosis when Linda was a preteen. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!
Through the last year of Linda’s illness, friends and family have visited, shared memories, prayed, silently grieved and said goodbye in their hearts; so there will be no public service at this time. Linda would want you all to enjoy your families during this Christmas week, to know that “Jesus really IS the reason for the season”, and to remember her with a smile! If you wish, in lieu of flowers, we know that a gift in Linda’s memory to the church family that she loved would please her very much: Weirton Seventh-day Adventist Church, 600 Colliers Way, Weirton, WV 26062.
Linda will be interred beside her parents at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Weirton.
