MARGARET “PEGGY” SPENCE

Margaret “Peggy” Spence of Mingo Junction passed away November 11, 2025 in the loving presence of her children and family. She was 73 years old.

Peggy was born on December 23, 1951 at Gill Memorial Hospital in Steubenville. After graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1969, Peggy worked for The College of Steubenville, and then for Jefferson County Health and Human Services. After moving to Mingo and starting a family, Peggy embarked on what would become the cornerstone of her life, her children. Julie, Jesse, and J were her proudest achievements in life, and her love for them was unending.

A loving mother and phenomenal homemaker, her home was always open to family and friends. Holiday parties, family traditions, and more stories and laughs than one could collect in five lifetimes were Peggy’s passion, and her passion was unmatched. Her love of music and her unwavering belief in the signs and messages from loved ones gone before us were the hallmarks of her faith. It was this faith that helped her through some of her biggest challenges. The example Peggy set in life was to BELIEVE, and she would, by that example encourage all to do the same. And no matter the occasion, whether it be an impromptu visit, or a visit to the dentist, Peggy was always prepared to offer a shot of Fireball. This was a treat she offered her best friends, which was almost everybody.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents George and Helen (Salancy) Spence, her sister Kathy Tucker. Peggy also endured the sudden loss of her special friend, Larry Caniff. She is lovingly survived by her sisters Susan Telvock (JT) of Florida and Donna Zorne of Wintersville. Also surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter Julie Keeder of Centreville, VA and sons Jesse (Jamie) Keeder of Weirton and J (Miranda) Keeder, also of Weirton. Peggy’s grandchildren Jordan, Rudy, and Grey will miss her and cherish her memory always.

Friends and family are invited to her visitation which will be held Saturday from 11:30 am until time of services at 1:30 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Fr. Gerald Muoka will officiate and burial will take place at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
