WILLIAM ‘BILL’ VAN FOSSAN
William “Bill” Van Fossan, 80, of Steubenville passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Trinity Medical Center West. He was born on February 23, 1945, in Boardman, Ohio, the son of the late Harold and Mary Van Fossan.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon and his children, Megan Marie (Jose’) Van Fossan-Zambonino of Washington, PA, Amy Elizabeth Dorsey of Steubenville, and granddaughter Justina Dorsey.
Bill grew up in Boardman, Ohio, and continued his education with a B.S. Degree in Human Resources Management. After school he worked at the Alliance YMCA for several years and entered the Army and served in Special Services from 1970-72. He returned to “Y” work for a number of years. He changed careers and was in Human Resources Management for the next 36 years working with several companies and corporations.
He received many honors over the years including: YMCA Senior Certification, Army Outstanding Community Service Award and Army Commendation Metal Citation, Hospital Department Director of the Year, Jaycees Distinguished Citizen Award, YMCA Service to Youth, and Bank One Corporation Quality Award.
Bill was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. In the past, he served on Church Council, was Finance Chairman and chaired the Pastoral Search Committee. He was a Rotarian in three different communities and was a Past President in the Steubenville Rotary. At the District level he was active in Rotary Youth Exchange Program and served as District Chairman for several years. He helped grow the district program to the largest in the world. He served on Chamber Boards, United Way, and Rotary as well as a number of personnel councils in several cities. He was a member of VFW Post 33.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio, on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Additional visitation Wednesday starting at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. with Rev. Michael Heckathorn officiating. Burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
