JON COOPER

Jon W. Cooper, 77, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

Jon was born February 14, 1948, in Steubenville, OH, son of the late Wilbur and Frances (Cheatwood) Cooper. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Beth Pfabe and Margay Taylor.

Jon was a 1966 graduate of Jefferson Union High School. He later received his Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from the University of Akron and a master’s degree from the University of Dayton. Jon’s career as an Art Teacher spanned 35 years, the majority with the East Liverpool City Schools, where he taught middle school before his retirement.

After his retirement Jon stayed busy volunteering at the Fort in Steubenville where he helped build whimsical shelters around the electrical boxes, display train sets during the Christmas season, and decorate for Light-Up Night. He also spent many hours embellishing a Christmas parade float to benefit the Grand Theater project.

Jon leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Marianne E. (Carinci) Cooper, whom he married August 21, 1971; his four children, Alisa (David) Blazek of Dublin, OH, Amy (Ryan) Hopkins of Peninsula, OH, Sean (Emily) Cooper of Akron, OH, and Megan (Andrew) Piper of Westerville, OH.

Family and friends will be received Saturday, Sept. 6 from 3 to 5 pm at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto where Jon’s Memorial Service will follow at 5 pm with Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla and Francesca Carinci, Esq. speaking.
