JOHN MARTIN
John C. Martin, 78, of Steubenville died Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Valley Hospice. He was born January 16, 1947 in Altha, FL. He is the son of the late Leonard and Mary Sullivan Martin. He is also preceded in death by his wife Pamela Taylor Martin; two daughters Monica Vacheresse and Brooke Taylor; step mother Goldie Martin.
John was a retired Steubenville firefighter who was affectionately known as “Gator” and “Papa John”. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he served his country in the Vietnam War. After his retirement, he spent his time as a security officer at Maryland Market. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and collecting firearms.
John is survived by brother Toby (Michelle) Short of Korea; sisters Patty Martin of New Cumberland and Gloria (Ray) Baker of Salineville, OH; four grandchildren Mariah (Matthew) Basham, Terry Vacheresse, Alex Simpson and Elisabeth Matyas; three great grandchildren Grayson, Matthew and Evie. Also his significant other Katie.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:00 am until time of services at 1:00 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Pastor Dave Shores will officiate.
