DAVID HARVILAK

David Alan Harvilak, age 78, of Wintersville, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 21st.
Born on October 19, 1946, in Steubenville, he was the son of the late Nicholas Thomas Harvilak (1911 – 2002) and Veronica Theresa (Solomon) Harvilak (1918 – 2007).
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nicolette Ann Harvilak Sciance (1940 – 1998) and Paula Renee Harvilak Pence (1943 – 2013), his son David Alan Harvilak II (1968 – 2001), and grandparents Janos and Anna Harvilak and John and Susan Solomon.
David graduated from Toronto High School in 1964 and earned a degree in business administration and accounting from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C., in 1977.
He joined the FBI in Washington, D.C., in 1965 and served until 1966. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966, serving in Vietnam from 10/1966 to 10/1967, and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was reinstated into the FBI in 1968, working in the Laboratory Division as a cryptanalyst until 1980, and was then appointed as a special agent assigned to field offices in Washington (1980 – 1982), San Antonio (1982 – 1984), and then Baltimore until his retirement on July 31, 2004.
He lived in Westminster, MD, from 1984 to 2008, then relocated to Mesquite, NV, before settling in Wintersville in 2024, where he passed away.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Alyce “Aly” Marie (Barcus) Harvilak, whom he married on March 26, 2005; his children, Lori Ann (Paul) Sizemore (b. 1974) and Kurt Alan (Jennifer) Harvilak (b. 1972); grandchildren Kayla, Cole, and Dakota Sizemore, and David Harvilak, along with ten great-grand- children.
He is also survived by his stepchildren: William J. Holmes and his children Chad and Garrett; David B. (Nancy) Holmes and their children Kaitlyn and William; and Bryan K. (Gigi) Holmes and their daughter Emmry.
A visitation will be held at Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto, on Tuesday, August 26th, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service celebrating David’s life at 11:00 AM.
