DIANE MAFFETT

She was born July 20, 2025 in Butler, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph Best and Gilanna (Claypool) Mushrush, and was raised by her step-father, the late Ronald Mushrush.

Diane was Presbyterian by faith; had attended Stanton Local High School; had taught GED classes at Eastern Gateway Community College; had been employed as a nursing home cook; cleaned banks and had worked at the former Hills Department Store.

She was a caregiver who unselfishly cared for family and others whenever needed.

In addition to Diane’s parents and step-father, she was preceded in death by brothers, Terry and Sam Best; sister, Mel Best Bodo; and nephew, Jeremy Best.

Diane leaves behind her husband, Michael Allen Maffett, whom she married September 10, 2005; sons, Michael Phelps and wife Kate and Christopher Phelps; daughter, Angeline Cole and husband Doug; step-children, Matthew, Brook and Charissa Maffett. Several grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a great-grandchild coming soon. Also, several nieces and nephews survive.

Family and friends will gather for visitation 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 at the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto.

A celebration service of Diane’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday May 22 at the funeral home with the Reverend Jane Schockey officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville.
