DANIEL SWEENEY

Daniel K. Sweeney, 77, of Steubenville passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at Sienna Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Wintersville. Born on August 3, 1947, Dan was the son of the late Daniel and Catherine (Kitty) Kenny Sweeney. In addition to his parents Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Sweeney.

Dan graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central Class of 1965. He was a veteran of the United States Army, obtaining the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War. Dan was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and Triumph of the Cross Parish in Steubenville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #4361 Mingo Junction, Ohio and the Polish Athletic Club of Steubenville.

In December 2009, Dan retired from Weirton Steel/ArcelorMittal with 43 years of service mainly working on Number 5 Pickler in the Strip Steel Division.

Dan is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Phyllis (Sedoti) Sweeney. They were blessed with two sons: Daniel (Lataucia) Sweeney of Columbus and Timothy Sweeney. He also leaves behind his brother, James (Mary Kay) Sweeney; brother in law Paul Sedoti; and his niece Jamie (Jeff) Proya whom he loved very much.

The family would like to thank Weirton Medical Center, CCU Unit, Specialty Hospital, Sienna Skilled Care & Rehabilitation and Valley Hospice for all of their care and support.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 3 from 4 to 7 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated Friday, April 4 10 am at Holy Rosary Church. Father Matthew Gossett will celebrate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
