BROTHER JOHN VYSZENSKI
Immaculate Heart of Mary Brother John Vyszenski died Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the age of 89. The only son and one of three children of John and Mary Vyszenski of Dayton, Ohio, Brother John was born March 11, 1936. Brother John’s sisters reside in Ohio: Susan Sacksteder in Cincinnati and Cynthia Vyszenski in Columbus. He is also survived by his nieces Julie Klosky and Sara Testerman, nephew David Sacksteder, five great nieces and nephews, and six great-great nieces and nephews.
He is a graduate of Our Lady of the Rosary School and Chaminade High School, Dayton.
In September 1956, Brother John entered the Brothers of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On Feb. 2, 1960, he made his profession at Holy Name Cathedral, Steubenville.
For many years, Brother John worked in the library at St. John Vianney Seminary. He served, also, as the sacristan at Holy Name Cathedral for many years; in the library of Guernsey Catholic High School; as general manager of the Fort Steuben Manor, Steubenville; and with the parishes of St. Gabriel, Minerva; St. Agnes, Mingo Junction; St. Louis, Gallipolis; and St. Anthony of Padua, Steubenville. He served the brothers as novice master, too.
Visitation will take place Monday, March 17, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 9:00 am until time of Mass at 11:00 am, Bishop Emeritus Paul J. Bradley of Kalamazoo, the former apostolic administrator of Steubenville, will celebrate the funeral Mass. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville.
