EMMA SMITH

Emma I. Smith, 87, of Mingo Junction died peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Sienna Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born on July 16, 1937, in Steubenville. Emma is the daughter of the late Edward and Marie (Higginbotham) Barry. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert R. Smith, her sister Dorothy (Barry) Giles and infant sister June.

Emma graduated from Steubenville Big Red and worked for Robinson’s Music store for many years before staying home to raise their 4 children. As the children grew, she worked at Pop’s Radiator Shop and E&P Market both in Steubenville and worked the concession stands for Buckeye North Football games. Emma was a kind, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed having her family around and cooking or baking for everyone. She was often called upon to bake a Texas Sheet Cake for multiple organizations and events. Emma and her beloved husband Bob were active members of Loyal Order of the Moose 688 in Weirton and American Legion Post 573 in Brilliant. Her kids have fond memories of watching their parents dance so elegantly to ‘Smoke gets in your eyes’. Emma and Bob’s home were the place of many holiday family cook outs where people may or may not have ended up in the creek!

Surviving are her four children, one son Gerald (Cindy) Smith of St. Petersburg, FL and three daughters, Lisa (John) Rosa of Olathe, KS, Tammy (Michael) DeLeonardis of Martins Ferry, OH and Rebecca (Eric) Avie of Cedar Park, TX. Her five adoring grandchildren, John Robert (Allison), Kimberly and Matthew Rosa, Austin (significant other Samantha), and Shaye (finance Josh) DeLeonardis; her four great-grand children, Lakelynn, John Russell, Aspen, and Reid; Brother-in-Law Mike Giles. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank Sienna Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation for the caring support they provided to Emma and to Valley Hospice for their care and support during her final couple of weeks.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, February 24, 2025, from 10 am until time of services at 12 pm at Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Laurie Labishak will officiate.
