DANIEL WATSON

With his peaceful passing on February 27, 2024 after a brief illness, Daniel Lane “Doc” Watson finally has a shot at his long-held dream of being reincarnated as a house cat.

A life-long Ohio Valley resident, Dan was born April 18, 1948, to the late Charles and Inez Watson and grew up on his grandmother’s farm outside of East Liverpool. After marrying Janet Golas in 1979 he settled downriver in Steubenville, where he would be “Dan” or “Danny” to friends, “Doc” to fellow truckers on the CB, and “Dad” to their two girls and the many friends who called the Watson’s a second home.

By any name, Dan knew the secret to life is not taking it too seriously. He loved rock’n’roll, the Sunday funnies, a good Sci-Fi plot, and armchair football coaching. He was a true jack of all trades – fixer of anything broken, invincible at Trivial Pursuit – and he made friends with anyone and everyone he met, whether they liked it or not. In recent reminiscing, Dan included in his favorite memories a full day lounging on the beach doing absolutely nothing, and all of the fall weekends spent at Harding Stadium supporting his two girls and fundraising for one of his very favorite musical acts – the Steubenville Big Red Band.

Having spent the last several years enjoying retirement in “lovely, exotic” McDonald, PA, at the age of 75, Dan ascended to that great gig in the sky to finally be reunited with Jan, who preceded him in death in 2008. He is survived by his daughters Chelsea and Hayley, his sister Clara, his best buddy Keith and many other loving family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Premier Washington and AHN Healthcare for the exceptional and patient care provided, particularly Pastor Ray.

At Dan’s request, he was cremated and the family will hold private services at a later date. Please direct memorial contributions to the Big Red Band Parents, c/o Rosalind Thacker, 420 North 4th St., Steubenville.
