JUDITH SFERRELLA
Judith D. Sferrella, 91, of York, PA passed away at home surrounded by her family on February 8, 2024. Judy was born on March 23, 1932, in Weirton, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Augusta (Canei) Testaguzza.
Judy graduated from Weir High School and then worked in the tin mill at Weirton Steel Company. Judy moved to Washington D.C. after she married her husband, Joseph on August 4, 1956. She then worked for the Navy until her children were born. When her children were out of school, she worked for a child psychologist until she retired and moved to York, PA. Judy participated in her husband’s ministry of tending to the sick and bereavement as well as marriage preparation. She also served as eucharistic minister in two dioceses.
The most important things to Judy were her family, her friends, and her church. When her children were growing up, you could always find her making lunch at their schools for some occasion. Judy was the soul of her family and made sure they all stayed close. Judy had the most beautiful smile and always made you feel special. Judy was an avid reader and loved word search puzzles to keep her mind sharp. She looked forward to cocktail hour each evening and especially loved cocktail hour when her children were home. Judy and Joe traveled together after retirement. Later, Judy loved to go on girl’s trips with Sheila, Cindy, Sharon, and Sandy.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Deacon Joseph V. Sferrella; her children: Sheila M. Sferrella (Cindy Wedel) of Lewes, DE; Joseph V. Sferrella (Denise) of Fredericksburg, VA; Sharon E. Eaton (John) of York, PA, and Sandra Sferrella-Taylor (Gary) of York, PA. Her grandchildren: Stephanie Foose (Freddy); Stacy McDonald (Brian); David Sferrella; Andrew Sferrella; Renee Bosak (Josh); Ryan Eaton (Alicia); Megan Wege (Paul); and Hayden Taylor.
