David Mendenhall
David A. Mendenhall of Weirton, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who could be best described as genuine, and a man of great integrity, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was 63.
David was born October 4, 1958, in Wheeling, WV. Days after his birth, Dave was adopted by Elwood and Georgiani Williams Mendenhall.
A graduate of The Linsly School, David continued his education at Fairmont State and Bethany College. David worked in production at WTOV 9 for many years.David was currently working as a caseworker for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Weirton Office.
When his boys were young, David enjoyed coaching Termite Baseball and going to their high school games watching them play sports. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan and also loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and WVU football. A music lover, Dave enjoyed playing guitar and listening to classic rock, especially RUSH.
Most of all David will be remembered for his heart of gold; a friend who would be there 100 percent of the time, no questions asked.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Weirton, and the Theta- Delta Chapter of the Tau Kappa Epsilon.
In addition to his parents, Elwood and Georgiani Mendenhall, David was preceded in death by his father and mother in law, Bernard and Delores (Stewart) Heflin.
David is survived by his wife, whom he married in 1990, Ruth Ann Heflin Mendenhall; sons, Jared Brooks (Savanna) Mendenhall of Weirton and Ryan David (Becca) Mendenhall of West Liberty, WV; 2 grandchildren, Piper and Jackson Mendenhall; and sisters Vickie Mendenhall and Cheryl (Patrick) Radican.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 4 until the 6 pm funeral service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Pastor Carol McKay will officiate. Private interment will be held in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA.
