WEIRTON - City Council will vote on a new contract for Weirton's police officers during their meeting set for Monday night.

Members of the city's Finance Committee met Thursday afternoon, recommending passage of an ordinance to modify the city's employee pay provisions, related to "employees who are members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 84."

The full council will consider the ordinance when it meets at 7 p.m., Monday, in the council chambers of the Weirton Municipal Building.

"This is a new agreement," noted City Manager Mike Adams, explaining it will have a term until 2029. "We've been negotiating for quite a while."

Full details of the agreement were not immediately available Thursday, but Adams indicated a pay raise would be included.

He explained one of the biggest hurdles in putting the contract together was the result of the Weirton Police Department adjusting its scheduling to feature 12-hour shifts, which went into effect in January. The move, he said, meant officials having to convert some of the terms and calculations from previous contract models from days to hours.

Once those conversions were completed, Adams said, the remainder of the contract had few issues.

"It came together pretty quickly," Adams said.

Adams explained the majority of the holidays established in the proposed contract already are established under state code and therefore, must be included.

In other business Thursday, the Finance Committee also recommended passage of a resolution authorizing financial support to the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle, in the amount of $33,684; a resolution to authorize revisions to the 2026-2027 fiscal year budget; a resolution to enter into a contract for GASB-34 accounting services, at a cost not to exceed $32,000, with Kozicki, Hughes and Tickerhoof PLLC.
