WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging area residents, businesses, and organizations to mix it up this holiday season.
The chamber is organizing its annual Weirton Christmas Parade, set for 6 p.m., Nov. 28, with a theme this year of "Magical, Mixed-up Christmas."
"With construction changing things up along our traditional parade route, we decided there was only one thing to do: make the whole parade a little mixed up, too!" chamber officials note in the announcement for the parade. "We're encouraging every parade entry to have some fun with this year's theme. Your entry can be beautifully Christmas-y, completely unexpected, or a hilarious combination of both. The more creative, silly and mixed up, the better!"
In the past, the chamber has used a portion of the Weirton Steel Bridge to line up floats and other large participants. However, the bridge currently is under reconstruction as part of a project from the West Virginia Division of Highways.
Whether incorporating an aspect of the nearby road construction into your theme, taking the holidays to a different part of the world, or even inviting aspects of other holidays to celebrate Christmas, officials encourage those interested in participating to be creative with their entries.
All entries must include lights, with categories to include large floats, mini floats, decorated vehicles and specialty units, fire/emergency units, performance group, and equestrian units.
Registration for the parade is under way, with a Nov. 13 deadline. For more information, contact the chamber at (304) 748-7212, or email services@weirtonchamber.com.
