Weirton announces Fall Clean Up dates

WEIRTON - While the idea of clearing out unwanted things often is associated with spring, the City of Weirton also offers such an opportunity for residents in the autumn.

The city’s annual Fall Clean Up has been scheduled, beginning with metal collection days on Oct. 15 and 16, and the household clean up from Oct. 19 to 23.

The service is provided only to current city sanitation customers.

As part of the Oct. 15-16 metal collections, items including stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, hot water tanks, old railings, bicycle frames, and metal shelving will be collected, as long as residents have the items placed by their curb no later than 7 a.m., Oct. 15.

Household goods collection, from Oct. 19 to Oct. 23, will take place on a resident’s regular garbage day.

Household goods also must be placed at the curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of a resident’s regular garbage collection. Clean Up week collections are limited only to household goods, in addition to residents’ regular garbage.

City crews will not collect construction materials, vehicle tires, vehicle parts, tree trimmings, brush, propane tanks, air conditioners, lawnmowers, paint, oil, antifreeze, or hazardous materials.

In addition, recycling will not be picked up during the week of Oct. 19 to 23.

Residents are being notified the city will be enforcing its ordinance prohibiting scavenging of materials placed for collection.

Those cited for scavenging face fines of between $5 and $500, as well as court costs, for a first offense, and could face imprisonment of up to 30 days in addition to the fine for any subsequent offenses.
