Democrats’ Kitchen Table Tour making Hancock County stop

NEW CUMBERLAND - An effort for legislative Democrats to meet directly with West Virginians is making its way to Hancock County.

The 2026 Kitchen Table Tour will make a stop in the area Wednesday, welcoming area residents at 6 p.m. at the Hancock County Senior Center, 647 Gas Valley Road, New Cumberland.

This year’s six-stop tour began last month in Marion County, with other previous visits including Kanawha County, Boone County, and Jefferson County.

The idea for the tour began in 2025, with the nine members of the House Democratic Caucus offering a way to get in front of the public, taking questions from the people, and taking ideas back to Charleston ahead of the 2026 Legislative session.

“We went all over the state, and we did something the Republicans are just not willing to do, and that's actually listen to people,” said Del. Mike Pushkin, D-Kanawha, the chairman of the West Virginia Democratic Party, during this year’s stop in Charleston. “Not only did that make us better delegates and better legislators being able to listen to what the people of the state needed, but it also got the word out. And in doing so … we were able to identify and recruit a bunch of top-notch candidates to run for office.”

The events include Democratic members of the West Virginia Legislature, often joined by local Democratic candidates, providing a chance for voters to meet face-to-face, ask questions and discuss issues of concern to them.

Wednesday’s penultimate stop in Hancock County will be followed by a visit to Cabell County on Oct. 22.
