Aim Women’s Center offers workshops

STEUBENVILLE -- Parenting in the 21st century can be downright impossible to manage. The challenges today’s parents face are daunting -- technology, work-life balance, changing family structure, preparing children for an uncertain future, safety and social pressures, to name a few -- all make for a stressful job for parents who are trying their best to raise healthy adults.

Marianna Jimenez, a graduate student with M.A. Clinical and Mental Health Counseling graduate student who is serving an internship at Aim Women’s Center this academic year, will hold a seven-week parenting wellness and skills workshop to help guide parents through some of these challenges.

The free workshops offered by Jimenez through Aim are open to all parents and caregivers, not just clients of Aim. Topics will include emotional regulation, self-care strategies, healthy boundaries, positive parenting, identity and connection, executive functioning and habits and procrastination.

Jimenez said the workshops are designed to build practical skills while participants connect with other parents.

“It’s important for parents and caregivers to take time for their own well-being so they have enough to give back to their children,” she said.

Each session is a standalone session; participants may attend one, several or all workshops without missing any content, although some content may extend based on interest.

Jimenez points out that these workshops are educational rather than group counseling sessions. This distinction is important regarding confidentiality and participant expectations. The workshops will focus on psychoeducation, experiential activities and optional reflection or discussion. Participants won’t be expected to share personal experiences.

Aim Executive Director Rebekah Cohen Morris said the center is pleased to offer the workshops as an extension of its services.

“We’re breaking the mold of our perception as a place for only moms and infants,” she said. “Parenting lasts a lifetime, and we’re pleased to offer these workshops that span the continuum of parenthood.”

Aim is scheduling for the workshops, which will take place at Aim’s new administrative offices at 500 Market Street in Steubenville on Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call (740) 346-6705 or (724) 370-3847 to sign up or for information.
