Trinity transfer to UPMC will be official Oct. 1

STEUBENVILLE -- The transfer of Trinity Health System to UPMC will become official next Thursday, an official with UPMC said this morning.
Joel Yuhas, the executive vice president of Pittsburgh-based UPMC, said during this morning’s meeting of the Jefferson County commissioners the change will happen Oct. 1
“A week from today, we will be welcoming Trinity Health System into the UPMC family, and we are very excited about the investments in this community that will continue to be made,” he said.
Yuhas added that the addition of Trinity will bring to 46 the number of hospitals under the UPMC umbrella.
The transfer includes Trinity Medical Center West, Trinity Medical Center East, Trinity St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital, Trinity Twin City Medical Center and associated clinics.
The announcement comes one year after it was learned on Sept. 22, 2025, that UPMC and Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health, Trinity’s parent, had been involved in talks to negotiate a sale. A non-binding letter of intent was signed on Oct. 15, and a definitive agreement was reached on May 4.
The deal between UPMC and Trinity will be the latest change to health care in the Tri-State Area. In January 2025, Weirton Medical Center became a full member of the West Virginia University Health System. That facility, located on Colliers Way, has been rebranded as WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center.
