Weirton welcomes new WVNCC president

WEIRTON -- The new president of West Virginia Northern Community College is taking some time to get to know the area as he moves into the role.
Andrew Langrehr was announced as the community college’s ninth president in June, following the retirement of Daniel Mosser.
Tuesday morning, he visited the college’s Weirton campus, meeting faculty, staff and members of the community as part of a "Coffee and Conversation" gathering.
"I am ecstatic to be up here and meet some folks," Langrehr said.
Before coming to the Ohio Valley, Langrehr worked as vice chancellor for academic affairs at St. Louis Community College. He also previously served the college as vice president for academic affairs, academic dean and department chair.
He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Iowa and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Central College.
"I’m grateful you took the time," he told attendees, who included representatives of the local business community, the City of Weirton, Hancock County Schools and neighboring Weirton Madonna High School.
Langrehr was introduced by Tina Edwards, manager of campus operations for WVNCC-Weirton.
"We are excited to learn from his experience," Edwards said.
According to the college, through his more than 20 years of higher education leadership, Langrehr has focused on student success, workforce development, academic innovation and community partnerships.
Mosser, who retired this month following a 41-year career in higher education, had served as president of WVNCC since 2019.
Founded in 1972, West Virginia Northern Community College operates campuses in Wheeling, Weirton and New Martinsville.
