WEIRTON -- The City of Weirton’s public transit program is providing more opportunities for area residents to get a ride.
In the coming days, Weirton Ride will be growing the number of routes it provides riders looking for a way to get around the city.
"We’re adding to the existing routes," Transit Director Kevin Davis explained.
Beginning Saturday, Weirton Ride will offer an additional weekday afternoon regular and express route run, and a new afternoon regular route run on Saturdays.
This will mean passengers using the city’s public transit service will have options of five runs of the regular route and three runs of the express route during the week, with three regular route runs and two express route runs on Saturdays.
The new weekday regular route will begin at 2:45 p.m., with a stop at Stone Brooke, following each of the existing route stops, with its last being at Freedom Place at 3:14 p.m. The new weekday express route, meanwhile, will begin at Stone Brooke at 4:30 p.m., with its final stop at 5:25 p.m.
The new Saturday regular route will run from 12:30 p.m. to 1:35 p.m.
"We’re trying to give the riders more options," Davis said.
Full details of the routes, including schedules for the regular and express routes, an interactive route map, a downloadable rider guide and information on rates, can be found online at weirtonride.org.
