Weirton Peach Festival moves to new location for this year

WEIRTON -- While it won't be held at its traditional location, a favorite summer event will continue this year as the Weirton Peach Festival moves to the Masonic Temple.

The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Temple, 1350 Knights Road, Weirton.

The committee tasked with planning the longtime event opted to make the move because of the pending closure of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where the festival originated more than 60 years ago.

A variety of peach-themed desserts, including shortcakes and pies, were prepared in advance and will be available for purchase.

"That's all fixed," said Wendy Speer, a longtime member of the festival committee, explaining much of the food to be served at the festival was prepared before church members learned of the closure plans by the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia.

Savory options, including beef and pork sandwiches, cabbage rolls and haluski, also are planned.

The Peach Festival originated as a fundraiser for the church, helping support its daily operations and various community outreach programs. This year will be no different, despite the change in location, with proceeds from the festival set to benefit local charitable efforts.
