Summit Art Gallery to showcase artist Evan Clough in ‘Simulated Process: Printmaking on Paper’

WEIRTON - The Summit Art Gallery invites the public to experience "Simulated Process: Printmaking on Paper," an exhibition showcasing an array of work by printmaker and photographer Evan Clough.
The exhibition will be on display beginning today through Aug. 26, with reception held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Aug. 13, at the Summit Art Gallery, located inside the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau offices at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17, Weirton.
The event is free to the public, and will include light refreshments. During the reception, Clough will discuss his artwork and creative process.
Clough is a multimedia visual artist from Virginia's Shenandoah Valley who currently lives in Morgantown. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts and Printmaking from West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from James Madison University, where he concentrated in printmaking and photography.
The title "Simulated Process: Printmaking on Paper" reflects Clough's exploration of the ways memory, chance, technology, and physical artmaking can intersect. Working across printmaking, photography, painting, video, and digital art, Clough creates layered compositions that transform archived images into colorful, abstract works that explore the process of imagination and memory.
"My work explores the science of optics and light, through the eye and the camera, as well as the Gestalt nature of the mind and how it processes information." said Clough. "By deconstructing and recombining the unrecognized and hidden kaleidoscopic geometries that make up our visual perception, I hope to stimulate our own system of phenomenological awareness, meaning-making, and language building to awaken viewers to those systems' reliance on what is useful and the marginalization of what is not"
