WELLSBURG -- Dominic Staffileno of Wellsburg is celebrating his 100th birthday today.

Born in Giulianova, Italy, on Aug. 6, 1926, Staffileno immigrated to the United States in 1956. He settled in Wellsburg, where he worked for the S. George Co. before later joining the Brooke County Board of Education.

After his retirement at the age of 62, he and his wife, Vittoria, traveled the world together, making memories everywhere they went. He shared more than 70 wonderful years of marriage with her until her death at age 96 in the spring of 2025. Together, they built a life centered on family and adventure, family members said.

Today, Staffileno stays busy. He enjoys tending his garden, spending time with family, and proving that age is really just a number.

Ask him the secret to making it to 100, and he’ll tell you it’s pretty simple: Stay busy, eat a Mediterranean diet and thank your parents for good genes.

During the last century, Staffileno has seen the world change in ways most of us can only read about in history books. But through it all, the things that mattered most are family, hard work and appreciating the simple things in life.

Today, Staffileno is surrounded by the people he said he loves the most, his children, Joe (Bridget) and Mary (Steve Camilletti), and his grandchildren, Steven (Alison) and Taylor (David Vaughn). Together, they’re grateful to celebrate 100 years of a life well lived.
