Brooke Board of Education OKs requests

WELLSBURG -- Members of the Brooke County Board of Education approved numerous expenditures and athletic volunteers at the high school and middle school during its most recent meeting.

The board OK’d a request for the high school band to participate in last Saturday’s parade celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Gaibaldi Lodge in Follansbee.

Board members also:

• Approved recertification in safety care crisis prevention training for Carrie Fedak-Davis, Jaclyn Robinson, Megan Rush, Cynthia Arthurs, Kathryn Young and Tabitha Board at a cost of $5,394;

• Agreed to purchase a new audiometer from J.N. Sheffey for $5,257;

• Agreed to purchase eSchool Docs from Bliss Ventures at a cost of $5,225;

• Agreed to purchase iReady Reading and Math Curriculum from Curriculum Associates at a cost of $43,139.49;

• Agreed to purchase 26 Acellus licenses at a cost of $20,540;

• Agreed to continue an agreement with Compassionate ABA LLC to provide applied behavior services to students;

• Approved a request for a maintenance service agreement with Doron for the driving simulation system at a cost of $4,092;

• Agreed to purchase 100 MacBook Neos for Jefferson and Franklin intermediate schools at a total cost of $59,400;

• Agreed to purchase the iReady platform for benchmarking the progress monitoring for K-8 from Curriculum Associates at a cost of $86,760.54;

• Agreed to renew and purchase the Mystery Science-Writing platform for supplemental writing activities for K-4 schools at a cost of $8,796;

• Agreed to purchase new books required for the SFA curriculum for Franklin, $510.40; Jefferson Intermediate, $510.40; and Brooke Middle School, $5,946.60;

• Agreed to enter into an agreement with SFA to offer professional development for all new teachers who will teach Wings, Roots and Edge, including three days of onsite professional development at Jefferson Intermediate at a cost of $7,200;

• Agreed to enter in enter in agreement with Art Cart for K-4 schools for $22,000 at Wellsburg Primary and Franklin Intermediate schools, and for $28,00 at Hooverson Heights Primary and Jefferson Intermediate schools;

• Agreed to renew the collaboration with Northern Panhandle Head Start for the 2026-27 school year at a cost of $20,000;

• Agreed to renew the collaboration with Little Bear Day Care of Follansbee for the 2026-27 school year at a cost of $60,000; and

• Approved athletic volunteers at Brooke High School: Jennifer Jezerski, Chelsey Colley, Christine Elson and Melissa Lyle, all cheering coaching; Heidi Snyder, dance team coaching; Gary McKinney, softball coaching; Kent Kidder, football coaching; and Matteo Filippelli, noncoaching football; and

• Approved Christine Elson as a volunteer cheering coach at Brooke Middle School.

The board’s next regular meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the Brooke Board of Education, 1201 Pleasant Ave.
