Market Street closure set
STEUBENVILLE -- Market Street between Fourth Street and Court Alley will be closed from 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, City Engineer Mike Dolak has announced.
The closure is necessary to terminate old water service lines.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time to reach their destination.
Steubenville school board to meet
STEUBENVLLE -- The Steubenville City Board of Education will hold its regular August meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The meeting will be held at the administrative offices, 611 N. Fourth St.

Shaffer Chapel plans celebration
BLOOMINGDALE -- Shaffer Chapel AME Church will hold its 207th homecoming celebration this weekend.
The theme is Welcome Transformation (Matthew 7:24-25), and joining host pastor the Rev. Melody Essex will be guest preacher the Rev. Kevin Jarrett.
It will be a celebration of heritage, faith and transformation, organizers said, adding it will honor 207 years of faithfulness, the legacy of ancestors and the continued transformation of the church, which is located at 1216 township Road 191.
The program begins at 5 p.m. Saturday and will be available on a free conference call by dialing (978) 990-5000 and using the access code 319939.
Sunday’s homecoming service at the church will begin at 11 a.m.
Lane restrictions planned for WV 2 in Follansbee
FOLLANSBEE -- A portion of WV 2 northbound and southbound near County Route 8 (Archer Heights Road) will be restricted to one lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, for guardrail repairs.
The restriction will be at milepost 13.20. Motorists are advised to slow down and expect slight delays. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the schedule.
Upper Ohio Valley trades council endorses Acton
COLUMBUS -- The Upper Ohio Valley Building and Construction Trades Council has endorsed Amy Acton's campaign for governor, citing her support for unions and working families.
The council represents Jefferson, Belmont, Harrison and Guernsey counties. Eran Molz, council president, said the group believes Acton will support union members and work to lower costs for Ohio families.
Acton said she is honored by the endorsement and cited her family's union background.
Brooke library to host recipe club
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will host its "Cook by the Book" Recipe Club at noon Friday, Aug. 28, in the River Room.
The adults-only club will feature the theme "A recipe that was passed down or given to you." Participants should bring a prepared dish and a copy of the recipe to share. Registration is not required. For information, call 304-737-1551.
