BLOOMINGDALE -- The Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District has been recognized for its strong financial management, receiving the Ohio Auditor of State Award following a clean financial audit.
District Treasurer Marcy Haynes accepted the award on behalf of the district from the office of Ohio Auditor Keith Faber. The honor is presented to local governments and school districts that meet strict standards for financial reporting and accountability during the completion of an audit.
To qualify, entities must maintain accurate financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, submit timely financial reports and receive a clean audit with no significant findings for recovery, material weaknesses, material citations, questioned costs or other financial or operational concerns.
“The award represents the hard work of the school’s leadership and staff who make every effort each day to attain accounting excellence. We’d like to recognize Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District Treasurer Marcy Haynes for doing an outstanding job watching over every dollar. The district has the people and processes in place that understand fiscal accountability,” said East Regional Liaison Dawn Baker. “On behalf of Ohio Auditor Keith Faber, congratulations to Jefferson County Joint Vocational School and Treasurer Marcy Haynes.”
The JVS undergoes a financial audit every two years. This marks the first time Haynes has received the Auditor of State Award during her tenure. She is entering her fourth year as district treasurer and said she was honored by the recognition.
“It is a tremendous honor for the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District to receive the Ohio Auditor of State Award,” Haynes said. “This recognition reflects our district’s unwavering commitment to accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public funds. As treasurer/CFO, I understand the trust our taxpayers, board of education, staff, students, and community place in us to manage district resources with integrity. Receiving this award affirms that our financial practices meet the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and fiscal responsibility.”
Haynes credited the district’s board of education, administration and staff for making the recognition possible.
“Together, we strive to ensure that every dollar entrusted to our district is managed wisely and in a manner that supports exceptional career and technical education opportunities,” she said. “On behalf of the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District, I would like to thank the Ohio Auditor of State’s office for this recognition. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of financial excellence and earning the continued confidence of the communities we proudly serve.”
Superintendent Ted Gorman said the award reflects the district’s commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
“Marcy and her team have done an outstanding job watching over every dollar and ensuring our public funds are managed responsibly,” Gorman said. “Receiving the Ohio Auditor of State Award shows that, across our entire organization, we have both the people and the processes in place to ensure fiscal accountability. Our taxpayers can be confident that we take our responsibility to manage their money seriously.”
Gorman also recognized Haynes and Assistant Treasurer Beth Powley for their work.
