NEW CUMBERLAND -- Hancock County Schools officials are preparing for the upcoming school year, working to finalize staffing for the district.
"We’re currently working through our postings," Superintendent Walter Saunders said. "This has been quite a task."
The Hancock County Board of Education reviewed several personnel decisions during its organizational meeting Monday, with all matters already approved under the authority of West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Michele Blatt.
Several reductions in force have been rescinded as part of the personnel moves.
Those include Trey Smith, business teacher at Oak Glen High; Megan Guida, multi-cat autism teacher at Weirton Elementary; Marissa Elliott, second-grade teacher at Weirton Elementary; Kolby Mitchell, science teacher at Weir High; Mikaela Lenhart, multi-cat autism teacher at Weirton Elementary; Jasmyne Hildreth, interventionist at Weirton Elementary; Heather Klakos, interventionist at New Manchester Elementary; Brooke Provenzano, third-grade teacher at New Manchester Elementary; Kamryn Bable, second-grade teacher at Weirton Elementary; Melissa Hudson, physical education teacher at Weir High; Ty Logston, multi-cat autism teacher at Allison Elementary; and Denise Roberts, multi-cat autism teacher at Weir Middle School.
Transfer rescissions include Tammy Null, custodian IV at the John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center; Logan Curtis, custodian IV at Oak Glen High; and Wayne Henderson, custodian II at Weir High.
Saunders explained that, in most of those cases, the individuals had initially been "bumped" by others, but the people selected for the positions had either accepted other jobs within the district, left the district for other employment or retired, resulting in the positions becoming available again.
"It gets crazy. It’s like a big spider web," Saunders said.
Other personnel matters included the assignments of Emily Ruiz from second grade at New Manchester Elementary to kindergarten at New Manchester Elementary; Amanda McKinney from assistant principal at Oak Glen Middle School to math teacher at Oak Glen High; Sydney Frey (Wagstaff) from multi-cat autism teacher at the Alternative Learning Center to the same position at Weir High; Alice Duffy from reading specialist at Weir Middle School to interventionist at Weirton Elementary; and Anthony Santangelo from physical education teacher at Oak Glen High to physical education teacher at Weir High. All assignments are effective Aug. 17.
Several resignations also were accepted, including Stephanie Fidak from the position of special education multi-cat teacher at Oak Glen Middle School, effective June 30; Michael Zias as custodian; and coaching resignations from Dave Cowden as Weir High head baseball coach; Garrett Railing as Weir High assistant golf coach; T.J. Haught as Weir High assistant basketball coach; Eric Hayden as Oak Glen High head baseball coach; Steve McConnachie as Oak Glen High boys track and field head coach; and Jeffery Lamp as Weir Middle School assistant volleyball coach.
Other assignments approved were Paul Stevens as Weir High assistant football coach; Eric Cline as Oak Glen High head golf coach; Garrett Railing as Weir High assistant golf coach; John Leary as Weir High assistant football coach; Tom Taylor as Weir High assistant football coach; Paul Tate as custodian IV at Weirton Elementary; Austin Haught as custodian II at Weirton Elementary; Alec Allison as custodian II at Allison Elementary; Nathaniel Robinson-Lonkert as custodian IV at Allison Elementary; Jason Poulton as custodian IV at New Manchester Elementary; Jacob Horstman as custodian II at Weir High; John McCombs as custodian II at Oak Glen Middle School; Tom Paisley as custodian II at Oak Glen Middle School; and David White as custodian II at the John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center and Transportation.
