WELLSBURG - As a result of air quality alerts issued by the National Weather Service, combined with high temperatures, a burn ban has been issued in Brooke County.
The ban is in effect until 8 a.m., Sunday, according to a notice signed by Commission President Tom Diserio.
All outdoor burning activities, including brush, yard debris, and open fire pits, are prohibited until the ban is lifted. Anyone found violating the order will have their fire extinguished and may be subject to fines.
"We encourage residents to report any incidents of outdoor burning to local authorities to help prevent additional strain on our firefighting resources and ensure the safety of our community," Diserio said.
Officials note air quality and weather conditions are expected to improve over the weekend, with the potential of rain and change in wind direction.
