WEIRTON - The City of Weirton has issued a reminder of traffic restrictions ahead of Friday’s performance by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
The performance, held through the support of the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau and local businesses, will visit Weirton as part of its annual four-city Independence Day weekend tour of West Virginia.
The gates to the Weirton Event Center will open at 6 p.m., with musicians, under the direction of John Devlin, scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m.
East Street will be closed from the Cove Road intersection to the main entrance of the Weirton Event Center from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
For those wishing to park at the Event Center: westbound traffic on Cove Road will bypass East Street, turning north onto Main Street, and then right onto Lee Avenue to access the entrance of the Event Center. Northbound traffic on Main Street will pass the Cove Road intersection, and then also turn right onto Lee Avenue.
A fireworks display will be held at the conclusion of the Symphony’s performance.
East Street will be reopened after traffic is released from the fireworks.
The Symphony will be joined on this year’s tour by vocalist Edward Washington II.
Washington has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Detroit Opera, Annapolis Opera, Opera Orlando, and New York City Opera, as well as appearing in productions of Donizetti’s Rita, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Puccini’s Turandot, and Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.
This year he's made his solo debut at Carnegie Hall, where he has been featured three times.
He's premiered seven of the works of American composers.
