WEIRTON — The Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation will adjust membership and day pass rates at the Millsop Community Center in the coming months.

“We haven’t raised any membership or day pass prices since 2014,” Parks Executive Director Coty Shingle said during the board’s meeting Thursday morning.

Adjustments will be made to existing fees, with most increasing and a few being eliminated or repackaged.

Sponsor memberships will increase from $419.25 per year for Hancock County residents and $433.05 for nonresidents to $440 for Hancock County residents and $460 for nonresidents.

Family rates will increase from $288.75 for county residents and $301.55 for nonresidents to $350 for county residents and $370 for nonresidents.

Adult memberships, ages 22 to 61, will increase from $203 per year to $250 for Hancock County residents and from $216.55 to $270 for nonresidents, while senior citizens (62 and older) will increase from $157.50 to $200 for Hancock County residents and from $170.30 to $220 for nonresidents.

The senior citizen family rate will increase from $190 to $230 per year for Hancock County residents and from $209.30 to $250 for nonresidents.

The yearly fee for disabled individuals will increase from $157.50 to $200 for Hancock County residents and from $170.30 to $220 for nonresidents.

The youth fee, formerly known as the child fee and applicable to ages 3 to 18, will increase from $86 to $130 per year for Hancock County residents and from $98.30 to $150 for nonresidents.

One category to be eliminated is the young adult rate, which previously charged $111 for Hancock County residents and $124.55 for nonresidents ages 19 to 21.

Board member Anthony Capp said the category was likely geared toward college-aged individuals and may not have generated significant revenue.

“I imagine it’s mostly in the summer when they’re home,” Capp said, pointing to the benefits the Millsop Center offers, including an indoor basketball court and swimming pool compared to other area gyms.

In its place, a College Student Summer Pass will be created, costing $90 for those ages 19 to 21 and running annually from May 15 to Aug. 15.

The day pass rate will also be simplified, with a $5 fee for anyone up to age 62 and $4 for those 62 and older. Sponsor guest day passes will increase from $10 to $15.

The new rates will take effect July 1.
