Neighbors complained about a large gathering Wednesday in the 800 block of Woodlawn. The hostess told police she “was having an engagement party,” but it was coming to an end and people were leaving. Police told her to keep the noise down and asked her to “try to move everyone back inside until they left.”
Telling tales: A caller reported seeing people in a Ross Street property Wednesday that was supposed to be vacant. Police talked to a man who claimed he has been in the downstairs apartment for several months and pays rent. They said the caller was not present, “so there was no way to confirm or contradict his information.”
Nicotine run: Someone reported a woman walking in the 500 block of Westwood Drive Wednesday knocking on doors. The woman told police she’d been at a friend’s house and had knocked on a neighbor’s door for a cigarette but was heading home. She was advised “to stop knocking on doors and if she was leaving the area, to be on her way.”
Biker hit: A man riding a bicycle Wednesday on North Street at N. 5th who was struck by a car said he wasn’t injured, but the rear tire was “bent beyond use.” He said he’d stopped at the intersection and then proceeded through it, believing the motorist had seen him. He said the driver stopped and talked to him, then left. A witness had a picture of the vehicle and police tracked it to the 200 block of N. 7th Street where they talked to the owner. He said he left after the bicyclist told him he was okay.

Out of pocket: A Mount Pleasant man said an Uber Eats driver never delivered his $64 food order Wednesday. He said the driver, who he knew only as “Allison,” picked up his order from Steak ‘n Shake shortly after he placed it, but when he tracked her progress he noticed she had stopped in Martins Ferry for 90 minutes. When he messaged her she told him it had been delivered and sent him a picture of it sitting on someone’s porch. He said Uber Eats would not refund his money without a police report.
Scammed: A Toronto man said he had been “talking with a woman named Cynthia” and was sent a picture from her phone Wednesday showing her “tied to a tree.” He said he texted her but she didn’t respond. He showed deputies the picture, which they determined “was from a movie clip,” and told him it was a scam. He said he had already sent her $188.
Stay home: A Richmond man said one of his father’s neighbors had been kicking a fence they just put up and verbally attacked him and the situation was escalating. He said the man had come onto his father’s property and was “coming at them with a baseball bat.” He left before deputies arrived.
Awkward: A woman in Empire said Wednesday she had invited a friend to stay with her for a while but then found out she was also friends with her boyfriend’s ex. She said when she found out the ex was coming to visit her houseguest the next morning she told her “it wouldn’t work” and asked her to leave. She said her houseguest called the ex to pick her up at the post office, but the ex has since been “driving back and forth past the house calling them names and threatening to come out in the street to fight.” She said she and her boyfriend were sitting in the backyard and heard something hit the ground and discovered a can of Freon and a container of skin cream in their driveway. A male friend of the ex’s said she was driving by the house “…yelling ignorant names and wanting to fight,” but he didn’t see her throw anything. Deputies advised him to tell the ex to knock it off.
Problem neighbor: A Bloomingdale resident told deputies Tuesday a neighbor “is always pulling out in front of her because he (thinks) she drives too fast.” She said he has chickens “and they’re always in the roadway” and when she came home that day he began screaming profanities at her. She said she is worried the situation will escalate.
