Police Beat

Steubenville

Waffling: Someone reported a disturbance in the mall parking lot “involving a firearm” Sunday, but the individuals involved told police no one had a gun. A female said four male juveniles who had accompanied her were in her car waiting for her and when she got there, “more individuals were banging on her car windows yelling at them.” Police searched the vehicle and did not locate any guns. A juvenile in the 1400 block of Ridge Avenue allegedly involved in the incident ended up in custody later after police reported he repeatedly refused to identify himself and gave conflicting explanations for his presence. He was booked into juvenile detention “until he was able to be identified and a guardian could be contacted,” police said.

Kick him when he’s down: A man who has power of attorney for a friend who is in jail told police his friend’s girlfriend is stealing his money. He said his friend never gave anyone other than himself permission to access his accounts. Police said $1,500 was transferred to a CashApp account on Jan. 29 and another $348 on Feb. 4. The charges were made after his friend had been jailed.

Party of one: Callers complained of a loud radio in the 900 block of McKinley Avenue Saturday. Police confirmed the volume was too high and spoke with a man sitting on his porch with a large speaker behind him. He said it was his birthday, but police reminded him of the noise ordinance and advised him to turn it down.

Temper tantrum: A man trying to care for his mother at a West Adams Street location said neighbors were having problems over parking. He told police Saturday he was backing into a parking space when a neighbor yelled “that if he hits the car he will beat him,” then kicked his rear bumper. The incident was captured on a security camera. Police told him he could get a parking permit for his mother, but otherwise there is no assigned parking on any city street.

Helping herself: A Pennsylvania Avenue resident said a woman known to him keeps “taking his vehicle from his house without his permission” while he’s at work. He told police Sunday, “it’s not the first time she has done this and she needs to be stopped.” He said he wants to pursue charges.

Continuing saga: A woman in the 1300 block of Wellesley Avenue told police a man “slapped her in the face with an open hand” while they were arguing in the basement Sunday. The male confirmed they had argued but denied slapping her and told police he “only wanted her to leave.”

Nowhere to be found: A caller reported kids throwing bricks from the hillside in the 1200 block of State Street Saturday. Police checked the area and didn’t see any kids throwing things or any bricks in the roadway.

Count your blessings: Someone on South Bend Boulevard complained about kids “playing outside and being loud” Saturday. Police said they “didn’t see anyone outside” and all was quiet.

Distracted: A female motorist was cited after she crashed her car into a pole in the 500 block of Lauretta Drive Monday. Police report Tricia A. Inverso, 47, 4501 Scioto Drive, was cited for failure to control a motor vehicle after she told them she “reached for an item that was falling in her vehicle and accidentally swerved off the road and into the pole,” which had been sheared off and was lying across the roadway.

Summons issued: Marquetta M. Whaley, 45, 730 N. 7th St., No. 230, Steubenville, theft, Saturday. Employees at Walmart allege Whaley scanned two large bags of bedding valued at nearly $104 with the barcode from a vase, police said.

Bothered: A N. 7th Street resident told police Monday two women “harass her every time she sees them.” She said the two saw her in a store and claims they “began calling her names and saying, ‘Come outside.'” Police advised her how to obtain a protection order and said she should call if it happens again.

Booked: Bryan Handy, 50, 633 Lawson Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear warrant (Municipal Court), Saturday; Katie Smith, 50, 3720 Main St., Weirton, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, Sunday; Michelle Bannister, 37, 102 Carmel Rd., Unit 110, Wheeling, violating a protection order.

Summons: Jessica Sue Crow, 40, 216 Fairview St., Weirton, theft, Sunday. Employees at Walmart alleged Crow failed to scan several items at checkout “while completing an order for delivery for another individual via a dash-like service.” Also, Anthony Steineman, 44, 177 Paris Colliers Road, Burgettstown, possession of drug paraphernalia, Sunday.

Code issues: The owner of four vehicles with expired plates parked in a vacant lot at 408 Lawson Avenue was told they are an outdoor storage violation and need to be removed.

Cited: Sabrina McNichols, no age or address listed, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and failure to yield after a two-car accident at the intersection of Mall and Aldis drives. McNichols denied colliding with the other vehicle but after admitting she doesn’t have a valid driver license, police reported asking her about damage to her driver-side rear bumper, but she “seemed unsure.”
