Car show to be part of Weirton’s Independence Day festivities

Craig Howell REVOLUTIONARY PLANS – Officials with the City of Weirton met with members of the Revolution Car Club to discuss plans for the “Freedom Fueled by Revolution” car show, set to be part of Weirton’s Independence Day festivities this year.

WEIRTON – The United States is gearing up to celebrate 250 years this summer, and the City of Weirton is planning a slate of events as part of local observances.

Those include the community’s annual Fourth of July parade, live music, games, contests, and a car show.

“We’re excited to be able to celebrate the 250th anniversary,” Weirton Mayor Dean Harris said of the festivities being planned in the city on July 4. “We’ve going to have a lot of activities.”

The parade will begin at 5 p.m., with festivities following in Municipal Plaza, on the Edwin J. Bowman Field, and at the Weirton Event Center, as well as on part of Main Street.

That includes the “Freedom Fueled by Revolution” car show, organized through the Revolution Car Club, an organization of car enthusiasts from Hancock and Brooke counties.

“This is the first ever event on Main Street, as far as car shows,” club President Chase Harding said.

The car show will be open to members of the public, as well as the club, with judging set to take place from the entries.

The first place prize includes a belt and $250, with second place receiving a plaque and $100, and third place getting a plaque and $50.

“We’re hoping for people to come out,” Harding said. “We hope to see as many as possible.”

For more information about the car show, those interested may email revolutioncc2024@gmail.com.

Live musical entertainment will be held at the Weirton Event Center, with performances by Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers and Brownie Mary’s Kelsey and Co.

It will all culminate in a fireworks display at approximately 10 p.m.

More details about the festivities will be announced in the coming weeks.
