Brooke board OKs personnel moves

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Board of Education approved personnel recommendations and recognized several students during Monday’s meeting.

Among the moves OK’d were the hiring of Maria Woodall as head girls soccer coach at Brooke High School, pending certification with the West Virginia Department of Education, and Hillary Snyder as the head dance team coach at the high school.

Board members also:

• Employed Earl Sturm as summer school credit recovery facilitator and Kevin Elias, Jamie Lancaster and Joseph Wade as summer school credit recovery teachers at Brooke High School, all June 8 through June 26;

• Employed Carrie Ciccolella as summer school reading coach and Cynthia Arthurs, Ashleigh Negri, Brittany Nieman and Haley Bowman as summer school elementary teachers at Hooverson Heights Primary School, June 8 through June 25;

• Employed Joseph Farran as summer school principal at Hooverson Heights Primary School, June 8 through June 25;

• Employed Ashley Walker, summer school special education multi-categorical autism teacher at Hooverson Heights Primary School, June 8 through June 25;

• Employed Larry Wallbrown as a bus operator and Samantha Nelson and John Williams as summer school bus operators, June 8 through June 25;

• Employed Kelsey Blackburn as a summer school aide and autism mentor at Hooverson Heights Primary School, June 8 through June 25;

• Employed Mary Folden and Toni Staffileno as summer school cooks at Hooverson Heights Primary School, June 8 through June 25;

• Employed Judith Ickes and Jennifer Clark as summer school early childhood classroom assistant teachers at Hooverson Heights Primary School, June 8 through June 25;

• Recommended for approval Brooke High School athletic volunteers Mason Orndorff, Nathan Rice, Kayla Sarcopski, Hattie Scott, Izzy Corey, Jacob Crook, Justin Swegard and Joshua Phillips, all powerlifting, non-coaching;

• Recommended Shari Boynes and Michelle Smith as Brooke Middle School parent volunteers and Gary Conley as a Franklin Intermediate School volunteer;

• Accepted the resignations of Logan Benson, eighth-grade reading and language arts teacher, effective at the end of the school year; Arron Hudson, assistant high school football coach, effective immediately; and Timothy Provenzano, assistant Brooke High School baseball coach, effective immediately;

• Approved several overnight or day trips for student activities or employee training.

Board members recognized numerous students who performed well academically and athletically.

The board’s next regular session will be held at 6 p.m. May 11 at the board offices.
