BLOOMINGDALE — Fish fry Fridays are back at Jefferson County Joint Vocational School as culinary arts students cook up some delights for the Lenten Season.

Students are offering dinner selections for dining in or carryout. The Crestview Inn Cafe is open from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and each meal costs $12. There is a choice of either fried cod or popcorn shrimp with french fries or onion rings, coleslaw or tossed salad, hush puppies, bread and butter and tartar or cocktail sauce.

Program instructor Glen Zalenski said the restaurant is open on Fridays only and the fish fry runs through March 27. Patrons may dine in or order carryout by phone, while access is available at the site along 1509 county Highway 22A in Bloomingdale. He noted that the fish fry can serve individual meals and group orders.

“The rear gate will be open and people can stop in for orders,” he said. “This is our third-annual event, and it has become popular through the years.”

Proceeds from the sales will benefit the program for field trips and related expenses, as well as to purchase food and supplies. Zalenski said his students plan to participate in the ProStart Invitational in Columbus March 9-10, where groups will compete in restaurant development and culinary competitions; view a culinary and hospitality program at Hocking College and attend a leadership conference in Columbus March 24-26; and travel to Kennywood in May to cap off their school year.
