Arrival of Lent
The Rev. Justin Golna of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Wellsburg reviewed liturgy for Ash Wednesday services to be held at the church today. Millions of Christians are observing Ash Wednesday as the start of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, abstinence and prayer leading to the Easter holiday. Its name comes from the practice of applying ashes, in the form of a cross, to the foreheads of Christians, a sign of repentance in biblical times. — Warren Scott
