Friendship Room offers help
STEUBENVILLE — With wind chills again falling into the single digits, volunteers at the Friendship Room say they’re willing to work with those who are “unhoused and living without heat” to find needs-based solutions.
“We will be happy to meet with (people) and work together to find solutions based on (their) individual needs,” the Friendship Room’s Molly McGovern said. “No one needs to be staying outside, in abandoned buildings or on front porches.”
McGovern said the Friendship Room is “a private house of hospitality” and receives no government funding.
“We are not a public-funded, government-funded house,” she stressed. “We are private donations only.”
McGovern said they want to provide those who lack housing with “practical assistance.”
“We are relationship-based and respect the rights of individuals who choose to be homeless,” she added. “We honor mental illness and have resources for addiction.”
She said their goal in 2026 is “to use the resources we already have in the county and (apply) good, old-fashioned common sense to start building individual relationships and funneling people who need assistance to the multitude of already established resources,” adding volunteers will be present “and make sure nobody has to be out in the cold.”
