Early intervention program relocates to familiar territory
STEUBENVILLE — The early intervention program at Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities has been relocated to familiar territory as it returned to the School of Bright Promise building.
EI was once lodged in the school building seven years ago, then the program moved to the current Jeffco Center when it was refurbished to include the administrative offices as well as service and support administration and community employment services. Now, Supervisor Neysa Rogers and seven staff members are back at their old stomping grounds and the program operates separately from the school.
It currently works with 77 children from birth to 3 years old who have developmental delays or disabilities, including personal, social, adaptive, language, motor or cognitive issues. It provides special instruction, occupational, speech therapy and physical therapy, vision, hearing, mental health and nutrition assistance, the latter which includes feeding therapy. Rogers said the move occurred in October and it provides room to help the littlest kids grow and thrive.
“It gives us more space and hopefully expands upon our services,” she said. “Some of the services are virtual but most are in person in their home environment. We’re enjoying the extra space, and we’ve even worked with some of the students when they were part of EI.”
Rogers said her staff have also provided support to the school, partnering with Bright Promise for events such as Spirit Week in October.
“We’re trying to partake in some of their activities so we can feel more like part of the School of Bright Promise family,” she added. “We are separate from the school but want to be supportive. We’re just happy to be part of Bright Promise again.”
Sara Wright, educational director at the School of Bright Promise, welcomed them back into the fold.
“It’s great having them here, and they’ve been a great edition,” Wright commented.
EI is a program that is no cost to children and families, and all Jefferson County children are eligible to receive an assessment.
