STEUBENVILLE — Ralph Petrella will be Steubenville’s new mayor.

Petrella, a Republican political newcomer, defeated write-in candidate Chuck Burch, according to unofficial results from the Jefferson County Board of Elections.

In other city races in Tuesday’s general election, Republican incumbent Tracy McManamon in the Second Ward, Democrat incumbent Royal Mayo in the Fourth Ward and Republican Jennifer Terpenning in the Sixth Ward, who ran unopposed, all were elected.

All of the proposed amendments to Steubenville’s City Charter were approved.

In what became a closely watched race, the renewal of the levy to provide current operating expenses for the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County passed.

In the Indian Creek Local School District, voters narrowly approved the renewal of its 7.9-mill levy for current operating expenses. Dan Bove and Brianne Schoolcraft were elected to the district’s board of education.
