Open for the season
The Rink at Franciscan Square opened for the season Friday afternoon. Lucas Cook, 10, and Ellie Cook, 13, of Steubenville were the first two skaters on the ice. According to operations manager Peter Herrmann, the pair have been the first out on the ice for the past three years. Approximately a dozen people were waiting to rent skates as soon as the Rink opened to the public. Herrmann stated the season will run through February, and will include a new opportunity for children and adults to learn pond hockey skills. He noted he is excited to see families together and enjoying quality time ice skating. The facility is a community outreach of Franciscan University of Steubenville, and is presented by Trinity Health System and other local sponsors. — Julie Stenger
