Hancock Schools consider personnel moves
NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Board of Education considered several personnel moves as part of its Oct. 27 meeting.
Among those were the hiring of Ashley K. Hinerman as LPN/autism mentor at New Manchester Elementary, and Penny Ellis as bus operator 142 under the transportation department. Assistant Superintendent Dave Smith noted earlier in the meeting both positions had been vacant.
The classified hirings became effective Friday, according to the agenda.
One position not approved was the proposed naming of Justin Horstman as an assistant boys basketball coach for Weir High, with the position paid for by the booster organization.
While receiving a motion for consideration from board Vice President Ed Fields, the item did not receive a second and was considered dead.
Board member Jim Horstman recused himself from the vote, leaving the room while it was being considered, as Justin Horstman is his son.
Other personnel-related items approved Monday include an administrative release for Jeremy Alger as substitute teacher countywide, effective immediately; the resignation of Julie Paul as substitute teacher and Jenna Maine as third-grade teacher at Weirton Elementary; the assignment of Marlena Main and Rosemary Guida as substitute teachers; a leave of absence for Haley Davis, secretary at Weirton Elementary, from Oct. 15 to Wednesday for medical reasons; and the approval of Jessica Zimmerman as substitute cook.
In other business, the board granted permission for the Weir High School Future Business Leaders of America to travel to the Stonewall Resort Nov. 20-21, and declared several items as surplus.
Those items included 30 jerseys and shorts for Oak Glen Middle volleyball uniforms, and five racks, nine machines, three bars, two hex bars and five sets of safety racks from Oak Glen High.
