Man dies when vehicle slips

STEUBENVILLE — A man working on a car in a parking lot behind a repair shop in the 200 block of North Third Street was killed Thursday morning when it slipped, crushing him.

The victim is not being identified pending notification of his next of kin, officials explained.

Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 11 a.m.

“He was working on the vehicle, the car had fallen on top of him,” Fire Chief Joe Ribar said. “When we got there his injuries were not sustainable (and) he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Edison board changes meeting

RICHMOND — The Edison Local Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at Edison High School in the fieldhouse.

This is a change in date. The meeting was previously scheduled for Nov. 20.

Hydrant flushing announced

WELLSBURG — Crews will be flushing fire hydrants from 4 p.m. Tuesday through Nov. 7 on streets in the following order: Main, Marianna, Charles, Yankee, Commerce, Pleasant Avenue, White Bell Circle and Washington Pike.

Customers may experience a change in water pressure and should refrain from washing clothes to avoid

Village to collect leaves

WINTERSVILLE — Next week, village crews will begin collecting leaves along residences using suction equipment.

The leaves will be collected on Monday for those with Tuesday garbage collection, on Nov. 10 for those with Wednesday garbage collection, and Nov. 17 for those with Thursday collection and Friday garbage collection.

Residents are advised to rake them to the edges of their yards and not into streets, where they may collect in storm drains and clog them.
