Designation will honor Cadiz man
COLUMBUS — A bill designating a portion of U.S Route 22 in Harrison County as the Staff Sergeant Melvin Trushel Sr. Memorial Highway has passed unanimously through the Ohio House of Representatives, state Rep. Ty Moore, R-Caldwell, said Thursday.
House Bill 384 honors Staff Sgt. Melvin Trushel Sr., a World War II Army veteran from Cadiz. Born in 1919, Trushel served with distinction in the Army, including as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. His military service, which spanned six years during World War II, earned him numerous honors, including the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Unit Badge.
After returning from service, Trushel remained involved in his community, including holding memberships in the Hopedale American Legion, the Hopedale VFW and other local organizations.
“A distinguished honor for a true American hero,” said Moore, who sponsored the legislation.
This highway designation covers the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 22 between mile markers 19 and 22 in Harrison County. The honor serves as a lasting tribute to Trushel’s dedication and sacrifices for his country and community.
House Bill 384 now goes to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
