Charges coming after drug raid
STEUBENVILLE — A city resident is facing multiple charges after the Jefferson County Drug Task Force raided a property at 1056 Adams St., Steubenville, Wednesday.
Drug Task Force Commander Maj. Chris Vinci said Leroy Benjamin, 36, will be charged with felony drug possession, having a weapon under disability and tampering with evidence.
Detectives, assisted by the Jefferson County Special Response Team, Steubenville Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, seized $1,600 in cash plus 28 grams of suspected fentanyl and about 19 grams of suspected cocaine from the residence, Vinci said. Benjamin allegedly threw a loaded gun out of a bedroom window when officers entered the home, Vinci said.
Benjamin is being held in the Jefferson County Justice Center pending arraignment in Steubenville Municipal Court.
Sheriff’s deputies, city police and the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office comprise the task force.
