Citywide hydrant flush scheduled in Weirton

WEIRTON — The Weirton Area Water Board has scheduled its fall citywide fire hydrant flush, beginning Oct. 6.

Crews will begin at 8 a.m. each day and continue until the assigned area is completed. During the flush some areas may experience low pressure, especially in the higher elevations. Customers in the general areas of flushing that day are advised to refrain from doing laundry during the respective times due to the likelihood of rust causing yellow staining to laundry.

The schedule includes Oct. 6, downtown Weirton and Weir Avenue areas; Oct. 7, Kings Creek Bowl and Weircrest; Oct. 8, Marland Heights; Oct. 9, Weirton Heights, west of Penco Road; and Oct. 10, Weirton Heights, east of Penco Road.

Weirton municipal offices to close for Columbus Day

WEIRTON — City of Weirton municipal administrative offices will be closed Oct. 13 in observance of Columbus Day.

In addition, the Weirton Ride transit department will be closed with no transit services available.

The collection schedule for garbage and recycling will not be altered.

Chicago man convicted of drug charges

WHEELING — A Chicago man was convicted of multiple drug charges for leading a drug distribution organization that transported fentanyl from Chicago to Weirton.

Gerald Henry, also known as “Unc,” 41, was found guilty of two counts involving the distribution of fentanyl and cocaine last week. The testimony at trial established that Henry transported large quantities of fentanyl and cocaine to Hancock County for sale and distribution. Investigators seized more than 400 grams of fentanyl from a search of Henry’s Weirton residence.

Henry faces at least 10 years and up to life in prison for each of the charges. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
